Freelance Hourly Rate Calculator

Find the hourly rate you need to charge to take home the income you want.

How the rate is calculated

Revenue needed = target income ÷ (1 − tax rate) + business expenses. Billable hours = (52 − weeks off) × weekly hours × billable share. Your hourly rate is revenue needed divided by billable hours.

Why billable share matters

Many freelancers bill only 50–70% of their working time, because the rest goes to admin, sales and learning. Lower the billable share and the rate you need goes up, so be honest with yourself here.

Estimate only. Tax rules vary by country; check with an accountant.
